Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup is a once daily relief from the symptoms of hay fever for adults and children 2+ years
- Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup is a banana flavoured sugar free oral solution containing Cetirizine hydrochloride, which is an antihistamine.
This medicine treats children aged 2 to 5 years suffering from: the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis).
Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup treats adults and children aged 6 years and over suffering from:
- hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis)
- year round allergies such as dust or pet allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis)
- urticaria (swelling, redness and itchiness of the skin).
It can relieve unpleasant symptoms and discomfort associated with the above conditions, such as:sneezing, irritated, runny and blocked up nose, itchy, red and watering eyes and skin rashes.

How to take Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup:
- Always read the full information in your own product
- For oral use
- Do not give to children under 2 years of age
Children aged 2 to 5 years:
- Treatment for hay fever only
- One 5 ml spoonful to be swallowed once daily
- Or one 2.5 ml spoonful in the morning and one 2.5 ml spoonful in the evening
- Do not exceed the stated dose
Children aged 6 to 11 years:
- Treatment for hay fever, year round allergies and urticaria
- Two 5 ml spoonfuls to be swallowed once daily
- Or one 5 ml spoonful in the morning and one 5 ml spoonful in the evening
- Do not exceed the stated dose
Adults and children aged 12 years and over:
- Treatment for hay fever, year round allergies and urticaria
- Two 5 ml spoonfuls to be swallowed once daily
- Do not exceed the stated dose
You must see a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve
If you have taken more Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup than you should: talk to your doctor or pharmacist immediately or go to your nearest accident & emergency (casualty) department as soon as possible.
If you forget to take the medicine: Take as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup contains: 1mg/ml of Cetirizine hydrochloride as the active ingredient.
Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup also contains: sorbitol, glycerol, propylene glycol, Saccharin Sodium, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), banana flavouring, sodium acetate, acetic acid and purified water.
Do not take Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup if: You have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients in this product, or any other antihistamine.
Take special care with Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup:
- If you have kidney problems, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product
- The solution does not normally cause drowsiness. However, individuals can react differently to treatment. Do not drive or operate machinery if your are affected, but you should persist with the solution as any drowsiness does not last a long time.
- As with all antihistamines, it is advisable to avoid excessive alcohol consumption when taking this medicine
Pregnancy and Breast-feeding:
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine whilst pregnant
- You should not take this product if you are breast-feeding
Important information about some of the ingredients:
Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup contains:
- methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed)
- sorbitol 3.15g per dose, a source of 0.8g of fructose, and therefore patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine.
Like all medicines Benadryl Allergy Oral Syrup can have side-effects although these are usually mild:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, dry mouth, upset stomach or fits.
