Actifed Chesty Coughs (100ml) [P]
Actifed Chesty Coughs is a multi-action cough linctus to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu including runny nose, watery eyes, nasal congestion, blocked sinuses and a chesty cough. It contains guaifenesin (an expectorant) to help loosen mucus (phlegm) from the lungs and make it easier to cough up; pseudoephedrine (a decongestant) to help reduce nasal and sinus congestion and clear catarrh and triprolidine (an antihistamine) to help stop sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes.
Pseudoephedrine Restrictions: Products containing pseudoephedrine are legally limited to one item per order, because this has in some cases been used to manufacture illegal drugs
For oral use:
Adults and children over 12 years: Take two 5 ml spoonfuls every 4 to 6 hours up to 4 times a day. (Maximum daily dose: 40 ml)
Children aged 6 to 12 years: Take one 5 ml spoonful every 4 to 6 hours up to 4 times a day. (Maximum daily dose: 20 ml)
Children aged 2 to 5 years: Take one 2.5 ml spoonful every 4 to 6 hours up to 4 times a day. (Maximum daily dose: 10 ml)

- You must see a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve

The large end is a 5 ml spoon for children over 6 years of age and adults.
The small end is a 2.5 ml spoon for children under the age of 6.
Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs is a clear orange liquid: Each 5 ml contains the active ingredients: Guaifenesin 100 mg, Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30 mg and Triprolidine hydrochloride 1.25 mg.
It also contains: Sorbitol solution, sucrose, sodium benzoate (E211), methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218), Sunset yellow (E110), alcohol, flavouring FC 900853, menthol and purified water.
Before you take Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs
Cautions for giving cough and cold medicines to children:
- Do not give to children under 2 years old
- Do not exceed the stated dose
- Do not give any other cough or cold medicine at the same time
- Seek the advice of a pharmacist or other healthcare professional before giving Actifed Chesty Cough
- You have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients or to the antihistamine, Acrivastine.
- You are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, drugs for depression including Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs).
- You have high blood pressure or heart disease.
- You have lung disease or a persistent cough, have a cough associated with asthma, or produce a lot of mucus (phlegm).
- You have an inherited intolerance to fructose.
- You have kidney or liver problems.
- You have prostate disease, diabetes, glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or an over-active thyroid.
- tricyclic antidepressants
- decongestants, appetite suppressants, stimulants or sedatives
- medicines for high blood pressure (e.g. methyldopa)
If you are unsure if the medicine you are taking is one of those mentioned above, then show the pack to the pharmacist.

Driving and using machines: Do not drive or operate machinery if Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs makes you drowsy or makes it difficult for you to concentrate. Avoid alcoholic drink.
If you take medicines which make you drowsy while you are taking Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs, the chances of getting these side-effects are increased.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs in pregnancy or whilst breast-feeding.
Important information about some of the ingredients in Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs: It contains 6.92%v/v of alcohol and may be harmful if you have liver disease, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain injury or brain disease. It also may modify or increase the effect of other medicines.
It also contains sodium benzoate which may irritate the skin, eyes and mucosal surfaces and methyl hydroxybenzoate which may cause skin reactions such as contact dermatitis and more rarely wheezing.
The colouring may cause allergic-type reactions including asthma. These reactions are more common in people who are allergic to aspirin
Overdose: If you have taken more than you should, talk to a doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Side-effects: Like all medicines, Multi-Action Actifed Chesty Coughs can have side-effects, although these are rare and usually mild.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following:
Dry mouth, nose or throat, skin rash with or without irritation, difficulty in passing urine or increased heart rate.
The product may cause symptoms associated with decreased activity or stimulation of the nervous system, such as drowsiness, sleep disturbances and rarely hallucinations.
