Potter's Cough Remover is a herbal remedy traditionally used to relieve the symptoms of cough:

  • All active ingredients act to clear phlegm from the throat and chest and help cough it up
  • Black Cohosh and Scullcap relieve coughing
Directions

How to take Potters Cough Remover:

  • It is important that you follow the instructions your own product carefully
  • For oral use only

Adults and elderly: Two 5ml teaspoonfuls three times a day

Children over 8 years of age: One 5ml teaspoonful three times a day

Children 6 to 7 years of age: One 5ml teaspoonful every twelve hours

  • Do not take more than the stated dose
  • If symptoms persist or if your condition worsens consult your doctor

Not recommended for use in:

  • Children under the age of 6 years
  • Women during early pregnancy

Do not take more than the stated dose: Lobelia and Ipecacuanha are likely to produce vomiting. If you take too many doses, discontinue use and contact a doctor or pharmacist.

Each 5ml of Potters Cough Remover elixir (oral solution) contains active ingredients: Black Cohosh 5mg, Ipecacuanha BP 6.5mg, Lobelia BP 12mg, Pleurisy Root 12mg, Scullcap12.5mg, Liquid Extract Elecampane (1:1 21% alcohol) 0.075ml, Liquid Extract Horehound (1:1 21% alcohol) 0.1 ml, Liquid Extract Hyssop (1:1 21% alcohol) 0.075ml.

Also contains: Rectified Spirit, Methyl Hydroxybenzoate, Propyl Hydroxybenzoate, Tincture Capsicum Fort, Skunk Cabbage, Valerian, Chloroform, Anise Oil, Tincture Myrrh, Treacle, Syrup, Solid Extract Liquorice,  Avicel CL611 and Water.

Warnings

Do not take Potters Cough Remover: if you have previously had an allergic reaction to any of the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients.

Take special care with Potters Cough Remover if you:

  • Suffer from alcoholism
  • Have liver disease
  • Suffer from epilepsy
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Interactions with other medicines are not known and you should seek the advice of your pharmacist or doctor before taking this product: This includes medicines you buy for yourself, as well as those prescribed by your doctor.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Tell your doctor if you are, you think you might be or are planning to become pregnant. You should not use Cough Remover if you are pregnant or breastfeeding your baby.

Driving and using machines: Potters Cough Remover contains (alcohol) and therefore it is advised that you do not take this medicine if you are going to drive or use machinery.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Potters Cough Remover: This medicinal product contains 12 vol% ethanol i.e. up to 960mg per dose (equivalent to 24ml beer, 10ml wine per dose) derived from both the active ingredients (Liquid Extract Elecampane, Liquid Extract Horehound and Liquid Extract Hyssop) and the excipients (Tincture Capsicum Fort and Tincture Myrrh).

Also it contains the preservatives methyl hydroxybenzoate and propyl hydroxybenzoate - may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

Possible side effects:

Rare (1 in 1000 to 1in 10,000 patients)  Black Cohosh may cause liver problems. Symptoms of liver disorders include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or white of eyes), dark urine, nausea, unusual tiredness an/or weakness and/or loss of appetite.
