Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant is for chesty coughs: It also helps clear the stuffy, blocked-up feeling in your nose and sinuses and reduces catarrh.

  • Sudafed Chesty Cough contains Guaifenesin and Pseudoephedrine

Guaifenesin is an expectorant which helps to loosen the mucus in your throat and chest. This makes it easier to cough up.

Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant which helps you to breathe more easily.

Pseudoephedrine Restrictions: Products containing pseudoephedrine are legally limited to one item per order, because this has in some cases been used to manufacture illegal drugs

How to take Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant:

There is double-ended spoon in the pack:

  • The large end is a 5 ml spoon for children over 6 and adults
  • The small end is a 2.5 ml spoon for children under 6.

How much Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant to take:

Adults and children 12 years and over: Take two 5 ml spoonfuls every 4-6 hours up to 4 times a day

  • Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours

Children aged 6 to 12 years: Take one 5 ml spoonful every 4-6 hours up to 4 times a day

  • Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours

Children aged 2 to 5 years: Take one 2.5 ml spoonful every 4-6 hours up to 4 times a day

  • Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours

Children under 2 years: Not recommended.

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

If you take more Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant than you should, talk to a doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Each 5 ml of Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant contains the active ingredients: Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg and Guaifenesin 100 mg.

Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant also contains:
Sucrose, glycerol, methyl hydroxybenzoate, propyl hydroxybenzoate, ethanol (alcohol), flavouring (menthol, imitation wild cherry), colouring (E124, E110) and purified water.
Warnings

Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant is suitable for most people, but a few people should not take it..

Cautions for giving cough and cold medicines to children:

  • Do not give to children under 2 years old
  • Do not exceed the stated dose
  • Do not give any other cough or cold medicine at the same time
  • Seek the advice of a pharmacist or other healthcare professional before giving Sudafed Chesty Cough Expectorant

Ask yourself the following questions to check whether this product is suitable for you:

  • Have you ever had a reaction to Sudafed Expectorant or to any of its ingredients?
  • Do you suffer from liver or kidney disease?
  • Do you have high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, an over-active thyroid gland, glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye), bladder or prostate problems (difficulty with passing or needing to pass water often)?
  • Do you have a cough which has gone on for weeks, or a cough which brings up any blood or a lot of mucus, such as occurs with asthma or emphysema?
  • In the last two weeks, have you taken the anti-depressants known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)?
  • Are you pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast-feeding?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, do not take Sudafed Expectorant before talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

Important information about some of the ingredients in this product: Each 5 ml of product contains 5% v/v ethanol (alcohol) and may be harmful if you have a liver disease, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain injury or brain disease. It may also modify or increase the effect of other medicines.

  • Each 5 ml of product contains 3 g of sucrose which may be unsuitable in patients with an inherited intolerance to fructose or related conditions
  • It also contains glycerol which can cause headache and may also cause stomach upset and diarrhoea when taken in large doses
  • Methyl and propyl hydroxybenzoate may cause skin rash; this may occur after a few days. Rarely immediate skin rash or difficulty in breathing occurs.
  • The colouring in this product may cause allergic reactions such as asthma. This is more common in those people who are allergic to aspirin.

Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant and other medicines - Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you are taking:

  • Decongestants or stimulants, including appetite suppressants
  • Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors or tricyclic anti-depressants (medicines which are used for treatment of depression in adults and sometimes for the threatening of bedwetting in children)
  • Tablets or medicines for high blood pressure or for the heart

Tell your pharmacist if you are taking any of these before you take Non-Drowsy Sudafed Expectorant. If you are not sure, show your pharmacist the pack of any other medicines you are taking.

Side-effects are not common with Sudafed Expectorant and when they occur they are usually mild:

  • Some people feel restless or have trouble getting to sleep. A few people have bad dreams or hallucinations but this is rare.
  • Occasionally people get skin rashes which are sometimes itchy. A few men, especially men with prostate problems, have trouble passing water
If you get any of these, or any other unusual effects, stop taking the medicine and tell your doctor or pharmacist at once
