Beechams Flu Plus (24 Caplets) [P]
Beechams Flu Plus Caplets contain Paracetamol, Phenylephrine and Caffeine:
Paracetamol is an analgesic (painkiller) and antipyretic (reduces body temperature when you have a fever). It is provided at the maximum dose.
Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a decongestant which unblocks your nose and sinuses helping you breathe more easily without causing drowsiness.
Caffeine is present as a mild stimulant
Beechams Flu Plus Caplets are used for the relief of the symptoms of colds, flu and chills. These symptoms include headache, shivers, aches and pains, congested or blocked nose, painful sinuses and sore throat pain.
Beechams Flu Plus Caplets how to use:
Adults and children aged 12 years and over:- 2 caplets to be taken every four to six hours as necessary
- Do not take more than 8 caplets in 24 hours.
- 1 caplet to be given every four to six hours as necessary
- Do not give more than 4 caplets in 24 hours.
- Do not give to children under 6 years of age
- Do not take more than the stated dose
Important: Do not take with other medicines for the relief of flu, colds or congestion or with other paracetamol containing products.
- If symptoms persist consult your doctor
Taking more Beechams Flu Plus Caplets than recommended may be harmful. Immediate medical advice should he sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
The tablet also contains: Starch pregel, maize starch, povidone, potassium sorbate (E202), sodium lauryl sulphate, stearic acid, talc, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol and colours titanium dioxide (E171), sunset yellow (E110) and quinoline yellow (E104).
Check before taking Beechams Flu Plus Caplet:
Do not take with other medicines for the relief of flu, colds or congestion or with other paracetamol containing products.
Do not take Beechams Flu Plus Caplets if:
- you are allergic to paracetamol, phenylephrine hydrochloride, caffeine or any of the ingredients. Colour E110 can cause allergic-type reactions.
- you suffer from severe kidney or liver problems, overactive thyroid, or are under the care of your doctor for high blood pressure or heart disease.
- you are taking drugs for heart problems (including beta-blockers) or you are taking (or have taken within the last two weeks) drugs called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) prescribed by your doctor or hospital for depression.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Beechams Flu Plus Caplets if you are taking any other medicine, particularly:
- metoclopramide or domperidone - used to treat nausea and vomiting
- cholestyramine used to treat high blood cholesterol
- medicines to thin your blood (anti-coagulants) e.g. warfarin
If you are pregnant or breast feeding: As with all medicines you should ask your doctor before using Beechams Flu Plus Caplets if you are pregnant. You should only use this product at this time if your doctor thinks it appropriate and necessary.
If you are breast feeding ask your doctor before taking Beechams Flu Plus Caplets. Usually the product can be taken at this time.
Side-effects: The ingredients in Beechams Flu Plus Caplets are usually well tolerated in normal use. Paracetamol rarely causes any problems but allergic reactions, such as skin rash, occasionally occur. There have been very rare reports of blood disorders but these were not necessarily caused by paracetamol. Phenylephrine can cause heart palpitations, nausea, headache and blood pressure increases.
If you get these or any other unusual effects, stop taking Beechams Flu Plus Caplets and tell your doctor or pharmacist at once.
