Difflam Spray can be sprayed directly into the mouth or throat to relieve pain, soreness and swelling. It can be used to treat many painful conditions of the mouth or throat, including mouth ulcers, teething, sore throat, sore tongue or gums and discomfort associated with dentures or dental work.

Difflam Spray contains Benzydamine as the active ingredient:

How to use Difflam Spray: Read the full instructions for use that will come with your own product.

A puff of Difflam Spray should be sprayed onto the sore area according to the following instructions:

Adults: Use 4 to 8 puffs every 1½ to 3 hours

Children aged 6 -12 years: Use 4 puffs every 1½ to 3 hours

Children under 6 years of age treatment is based on weight: 1 puff for each 4 kilograms of body weight, up to a maximum of 4 puffs at any one time. This dose should be used every 1½ to 3 hours.

  • If you are not sure how many puffs to use or when to use them, you should ask your pharmacist for help
  • If the condition gets worse, or does not get better, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.

Overdose: If you use too many puffs of Difflam Spray by mistake, you should contact your pharmacist, doctor or nearest hospital casualty department immediately

Each puff from the Difflam Spray (175 microlitres) contains: 262.5 micrograms of benzydamine hydrochloride

Difflam Clear Liquid Spray also contains: Ethanol, glycerol, saccharin, sodium hydrogen carbonate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, mouthwash flavour 52 503/T firmenich, polysorbate 20, purified water.

Each puff contains: 15 microlitres of alcohol (ethanol)

Warnings

Before using Difflam Spray:

  • Pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to become pregnant: As with all medicines, tell your pharmacist or doctor
  • Tell your pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines
  • Do not use this spray in or near your eyes; if this happens accidentally, wash your eyes immediately with cold water
  • Do not use Difflam Spray if you are allergic to any of the ingredients

Like most other medicines, Difflam Spray may cause some side-effects: After using the spray your mouth may feel numb; this is nothing to worry about and will soon disappear. Occasionally, some people feel a stinging sensation when they first start using the spray; this usually disappears with continued use. If the stinging does not go away, you should stop using the spray and talk to your pharmacist or doctor.

If you notice any other side-effects, or if any side-effects continue for more than a few days, you should tell your pharmacist or doctor.

As with all medicines some people may be allergic to Difflam: Usually, if you are allergic, a reaction will occur soon after using the product. An allergic reaction can occur as a rash, small red spots on the skin, itching, or the skin may also become more sensitive to sunlight. In rare cases, difficulty in breathing and swelling of the throat may occur, which may need emergency treatment.

If you experience any of these symptoms, stop the treatment and seek medical advice immediately.
