Merocaine (24 Lozenges) [P]
Merocaine Merocaine Dual Action Lozenges contain cetylpyridinium chloride which has antibacterial properties and benzocaine which acts as a local anaesthetic for the symptomatic relief of throat infections.
Merocaine is used for the temporary relief of pain and discomfort in sore throats and superficial mouth infections. It is also used for symptomatic relief of pain and discomfort in more serious throat infections, such as tonsillitis and pharyngitis.
- Adults and Children 12 years and over
- Allow a lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth.
- One lozenge every 2 hours as needed but not more than 8 lozenges in 24 hours.
- Do not give to children under 12 years of age
They also contain the following inactive ingredients: lime oil, lemon oil, sucrose granular, glucose liquid (80%), quinoline yellow (E104), indigo carmine (E132).
Side-effects: Although unlikely to occur when taking Merocaine, allergic reactions and blood disorder have been reported with benzocaine use.
- This can result in dizziness, fainting, fatigue, nausea and/or vomiting.
If you experience these or any other types of reaction, stop using Merocaine and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Overdose: No experience of overdosage when taking Merocaine but normal procedures of gastric
lavage and maintenance of respiration and circulation (using
vasopressor drugs if necessary) should apply.
